Santa Barbara residential parking permits are online now
Santa Barbara residential parking permits use an online application system, and the permit is tied to the license plate rather than an old paper routine.
Santa Barbara has the kind of parking pattern that makes sense once you know the block. Homes, apartments, the waterfront, downtown work trips, schools, and visitor streets sit close together, so some neighborhoods use residential permit parking to keep curb space turning over.
For a home in one of those permit areas, the permit process is now online. Paper applications are no longer the normal path. Santa Barbara is also moving away from physical stickers and placards, with residential permits, visitor permits, and daily guest permits becoming license-plate based.
That small change matters. If the permit follows the license plate, the plate number has to be right. If a household gets a new car, borrows a car for a while, or has visitors coming, do not treat the old windshield-sticker habit as the rule. Use the current permit system and check the visitor or guest permit options before the car is already at the curb.
Have the address, license plate, vehicle registration, proof that you live there, and a regular email address ready before starting. If you need help with the online system, the parking office can help in person.
Do not assume every nearby street has the same rule. Start with the permit area, then match the permit to the exact address and vehicle. In Santa Barbara, the curb can change quickly from beach-day parking to neighborhood parking.
