Rancho Cucamonga's Pacific Electric Trail follows an old railway corridor, giving walkers, runners, cyclists, and riders a public path with transportation history underneath.

The Pacific Electric Trail is one of those places where Rancho Cucamonga’s past and present line up under your feet. It works as a path for walking, running, biking, and horseback riding, but the route started as part of a much larger rail story.

The trail follows the old Pacific Electric right-of-way through the Inland Empire. The old railway was part of a major interurban and street railway system that reached from Los Angeles toward surrounding regions. In this area, the line helped support the agricultural economy and connected towns across the valley.

That makes the trail more interesting than a simple fitness path. It is also a preserved corridor. After the right-of-way was purchased from Southern Pacific in 1991, planning work treated the land as a place that could serve public recreation while keeping future transportation possibilities in mind.

For Rancho Cucamonga, the trail fits the city well. You get foothill views, neighborhoods, street crossings, parks, and old rail memory in one long line. It also connects the city to neighboring places instead of stopping at the city limit.

A rail trail can do both jobs at once. It remembers the old movement of freight and people, while giving today’s residents a public path for everyday movement.
