North Etiwanda Preserve keeps Rancho Cucamonga close to the foothills
North Etiwanda Preserve is a protected foothill habitat area near Rancho Cucamonga, with more than 1,200 acres, a trail map, and rules that put the land first.
Rancho Cucamonga sits right below the foothills, and North Etiwanda Preserve is one of the places where that edge still feels close. It gives the city a way to reach open land without treating the preserve like a regular park.
The preserve began in 1998 as habitat land set aside because of 210 Freeway work. It started with 762 acres and has grown to more than 1,200 acres. Its work centers on habitat protection, education, and care.
The local history is layered. The land includes older traces of water use, farming, roads, and trail routes. It also has plant and wildlife habitat that county staff now manage carefully.
Use the trail map and current preserve details before going. The rules are stricter than a normal recreation area because the land comes first, and public access fits around that.
