Lafayette Reservoir is the city's easy outdoor escape

Lafayette Reservoir gives the city a close-in recreation area for walking, fishing, boating, picnics, and hillside views.

Lafayette Reservoir is the sort of outdoor place that can make a town easier to live in. It sits at 3849 Mount Diablo Boulevard, close enough to everyday errands but set apart enough to feel like a real break.

EBMUD manages the recreation area. The reservoir has trails, fishing, boating, picnic areas, restrooms, and a visitor center. The setting is simple in a good way: water in the middle, hills around it, and paths for both short walks and longer loops.

This Lafayette landmark also shows how water infrastructure and public recreation can share the same space. People may come for exercise, fishing, or a family picnic, but they are also visiting part of the East Bay’s water system.

Before going, look at the reservoir page for hours, parking, boating rules, and construction notes. The hours change by season, so it is worth sorting out the details before the picnic bag is packed.
