Lake Oroville gives Butte County one of its biggest outdoor anchors. It is a reservoir day, a dam-view day, a trail day, and a camping day, depending on where you enter.
The lake was formed by Oroville Dam on the Feather River. The recreation area supports boating, camping, picnicking, horseback riding, hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, boat-in camping, floating campsites, and horse camping.
The size is the thing to understand first. The lake has many access points, and the right spot depends on whether you want a beach, a launch ramp, a campground, a trail, or the visitor center view.
