Sunnyvale utility billing splits city water from garbage service
Sunnyvale utility questions have one important split. The city provides water and wastewater service directly, while garbage and recycling service comes through Specialty Solid Waste and Recycling at rates approved by the city.
That means the right contact depends on the problem. A water bill, sewer backup, service account, or water emergency points back to the city. A missed garbage or recycling pickup may need the contracted hauler.
Before calling, know which service is involved. For utility billing, have the account or service address ready. For a missed pickup, write down the pickup day, cart type, address, and whether the cart was set out on time.
Sunnyvale also posts 24-hour response numbers for water emergencies and sewer backups. Routine billing questions can wait for the normal utility billing path, but water or sewer trouble that is happening right now should use the response number.
