San Diego County property tax splits value from collection
San Diego County property tax questions usually begin with the Assessor for value and records, or the Treasurer-Tax Collector for tax bills and payments.
San Diego County property tax questions are easier when you split value from payment.
The Assessor side is where property value and property records begin. That is the lane for assessed value, ownership information, exemptions, and property details.
The Treasurer-Tax Collector side is where payment begins. That is the lane for tax bills, payment options, installment questions, late taxes, and payment history.
This matters because a new owner may get a regular bill and a supplemental bill. A longtime owner may have a value question. Someone helping a family member may only have an address or parcel number. Those are different first steps.
Before calling, gather the address, parcel number if you have it, bill number if you have one, and the question in plain words. If the question is about the value, start with the Assessor. If it is about paying or reading the bill, start with the Treasurer-Tax Collector.
