San DiegoMission Baybeaches

Mission Bay is San Diego’s water day when you do not need the whole visit to be about ocean surf. The bay has beaches, paths, picnic grass, boating, playgrounds, and quiet places to sit near the water.

Mission Bay Park has more than 4,235 acres in land and water. It has 27 miles of shoreline, 19 miles of sandy beaches, and eight official swimming areas. There are also close to 14 miles of bike paths around the bay.

The trick is choosing the part of the bay that matches your day. A boat launch, beach picnic, playground stop, bike ride, and volleyball afternoon may all send you to different coves.

Once you pick a target, check the city’s beach and bay status, permit information, and the section you plan to use. Mission Bay is easy when the plan is specific.
