Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve protects coastal wetland habitat near Huntington Beach, with trails, birdwatching, a nature center, and estuary views.

Huntington BeachBolsa Chicawetlands

Bolsa Chica is the Huntington Beach stop that shows marsh, mudflat, dune, and estuary habitat behind the sand and surf. Just inland from busy beach roads, the land opens into a quieter coastal system.

The reserve has more than 1,300 acres of coastal habitat around a saltwater estuary. Visitors come for trails, birdwatching, guided tours, a nature center, and a close look at one of Southern California’s remaining coastal wetlands.

It works best as a slow walk. Bring binoculars if you have them, keep to the trail, and let the wildlife set the pace.

Ahead of the visit, review CDFW information for access, closures, and reserve notices. Some areas can be limited because this is protected habitat, not a regular park.
