Colton has a finished piece of the Santa Ana River Trail

ColtonSanta Ana River Trailregional trail

Colton already has a real piece of a much bigger trail idea. The Santa Ana River Trail is planned as a long route from the San Bernardino National Forest area toward Huntington Beach. In Colton, the local segment is complete.

The Colton portion runs more than six miles between the Riverside County line and the City of San Bernardino. It is paved and listed as a Class 1 trail. Access is near La Cadena Drive and Tropica Rancho Road, and the full trail vision links San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange counties.

The key is not to confuse the local segment with the whole dream. Colton’s piece is useful now, but other parts of the larger trail can still depend on construction, management, access points, and closures. Review city or county information before a longer ride.

For everyday use, think segment first. A family ride inside Colton is different from a regional ride across county lines, so start with the local access point and build the plan from there.

Keep the ride plan plain. Check the local segment. Check the weather. Bring water. Save the longer regional ride for a day with more time.
