Tsunami maps are coastal address checks
California Geological Survey tsunami hazard maps show mapped tsunami hazard areas, but a real warning still depends on current emergency instructions and local evacuation routes.
Tsunami planning works best by exact place. A beach, harbor, low street, river mouth, marina, or bayfront block can sit differently on the map than a hill a few blocks away.
The California Geological Survey tsunami maps show mapped hazard areas. Use them for planning. They are worth a look before renting near the beach, booking a coastal stay, parking at a harbor, or buying in a low coastal area.
A map is not the same as a live warning. During a real event, follow emergency alerts, posted route signs, and local public safety instructions. The calm habit is to know the map on a normal day. Also know the uphill or inland route before you ever need it.
